If you happen to be in the neighbourhood of the Akkerweg in Loenhout, you will notice it at once: here lives and works an arboriculturist with a very special passion for Taxus, Buxus, Fagus, Carpinus, etc. Even before you set foot on the access road to the nursery, you will be amazed. In the first place because of the massive forms of his creations: they are really impressive! These botanical works of art exuding character, strength and beauty are true eye-catchers for which you promptly want to clear a space in your garden. You go from one surprise to the next, not in the least because the largest specimens are more than 50 years old. They are the result of the great love Jef showed already at a very young age for the tree nursery...
Garden lovers and professionals dream of seeing immediate results when working out their green dreams. That means calling on plants with maturity. And that is precisely Jef Cools' trademark. Moreover, they are available in the most diverse shapes and species. We find Taxus baccata presented in tightly trimmed balls, cones, beehives and obelisks or as (multi-stem) trees with a height up to 7 meters and a trunk circumference of up to 70 cm. Various fantasy shapes make the whole into a gigantic topiary park. Jef Cools also offers Buxus sempervirens as large domes or domes on stem, undefined sculptures and multi-stemmed shrubs. Fagus sylvatica and Carpinus betulus pruning forms indicate the seasons.
